HVAC-R / Mag-Probe / THE BENEFITS Testimonial – Sean Nigrelli
Explains his experience using Mag-Probes.
Just for an idea of how I use the Mag-Probe to make my life easier.
The Mag-Probe makes for quick troubleshooting when I am in hard to reach areas. In this case I was testing the functionality of steam space heaters in the ceiling above manufacturing. It is noisy in this space making it hard to hear the “click” of a solenoid. On a heater that is not receiving steam, it can be handy to know if the solenoid is receiving its power allowing flow. In this case it was, so It helped narrow down the problem getting me out of the ceiling faster.
I work in HVAC-R. Today I had a heat pump that the compressor was not coming on to heat. On these particular systems we use a building automation system that activates a relay for the blower motor, the reversing valve and the compressor. It is usually pretty noisy in these spaces so i’m not able to hear a click when the relay is energized. When I wanted to know if the relay was being energized I just put the tool near the correct relay and it told me that the relay was not being activated. Just using this tool ruled out other possibilities quickly and got me on track to finding out what the problem was. The Mag-Probe makes it easy to know in a second which relays and solenoids are activated.
The Mag-probe tool is something I keep on my tool bag at all times. In HVAC I run into many situations where this tool comes in handy. The Mag Probe saves me time when troubleshooting relays and reversing valves or any other solenoid valve. It can be useful with pretty much any device that generates a magnetic field. I know our electricians use it quite frequently when checking relays and water fill and drain solenoid valves on our equipment for production. I’d say any technician or electrician could use one in their work.
Bob donates some of these Mag-Probes to the armed forces because he cares about the safety of these people protecting our country. In fact he’s a veteran himself. I can tell from talking to him on the phone a few times how he believes in his product. I do believe this is a tool that any technician or electrician could benefit from by having in their tool bag. No contact, fast and it always works.
Thanks Bob,
Sean Nigrelli
